It was one week ago I left home on this adventure. I have driven a bit more than 2,000 miles & just we drove into Dawson Creek, British Columbia, we finally drove into a new time zone!!! It is now Pacific Standard Time, (whew!)
It was brisk this morning & I was glad that I packed my winter coat!!! I’m also glad that I packed an extra wool blanket and a sleeping bag, just in case. The dogs love the cold weather.
The drive today was long & more beauty everywhere! From the glacier we drove to Jasper & wandered about this cute little town with a train and depot. At the recommendation of a clerk in a sporting goods shop, I changed my route and took a shorter and more scenic route to Dawson Creek. Seemed like a good choice!
We made it to Dawson Creek about 6:30 pm mountain time, so I guess it was only 5:30 pm Pacific time. We are staying in a private campground next to mile one of the Alaskan Highway!!! We have water and electricity tonight, but no WiFi, so you won’t see these until later. Oops..I just found out...I do have WiFi....it's good that I have that extra hour!!!!

The totems are really cool, Annie! So is the green roofed lodge building - looks vaguely like someone's house here at home.
I see how the scenery would be overwhelming to your senses. In the picture of highway, what are the large towers with slide looking things stretching down from the top?
Hey young lady:
Sounds like you are having a great adventure AND are becoming an RV expert at the same time. Glad you got to see one of my fave towns in Alberta, Canmore and the climbing I enjoy in the area. The puppies are very photogenic! Hope they are holding up well and not scrapping with any grizzlies. I'm glad you have met some helpful people along the way, affirming my belief that altruism and benevolence are not dead. Wondering what your MPG is and when you are going to post the self-portrait in the shower. Savor life and look forward to hearing from you soon. Peace and love, CB
Thank you so much for letting the rest of us live vicariously through your blog. What an adventure!
We will miss you but wouldn't want you to miss this afternoon as we celebrate Kathy's birthday. I smoked a pork shoulder that we are going to serve as pulled pork sandwiches. You are missing a fantastic taste treat but we wouldn't want you to miss your own Alaskan adventure for anything.
By the way, do you have plenty of rice? And a book on edible plants. I wonder if Cattail Bob has internet access. [Yup, check out http://www.cobaltcreek.com/newDesigns/cattailBob for some excellent survival advice - JUST IN CASE ;-) ]
Wahoo! The beginning of the AlCan!! Did you ever think you'd finally make it? Beautiful pictures--thanks for sharing them. So glad you like the Tolle CDs. We (the ACIM Gang) miss you! Hey, get a Valium prescription for Red Fred!
OMG! What great scenery!! Congratulations, you're there!! And what a yummy looking meal! I hope the kids are enjoying themselves, too! Must be, to have mom with them almost ALL the time!!
Merry, The picures with the towers are the remaining ski jumps from when the Olypics were in Calgary. The scenery is awsome!!
Chris,
Howdy! MPG are about 10!!! Good thing I have no children, so I don't need to worry about their inheretance!! Sorry, Red Fred is the only picture you will get to see in my shower!!
Take good care!
Glenn,
Sorry to miss your fiest! I am glad that you are cooking for Kathy, what a beautiful birthday girl.
I do have pleanty of rice (just had some with red beans, sausage and shrip tonight). I am not going to try death by mushrooms....
It sure seemed like a long wait before this trip began!!! I knew that I needed to be here.
Tolle is great, except when I'm tired of driveing & he trys to lull me to sleep!!!
Vicki,
Next time you go to Alaska (I know that you just got home from Alaska) you need to drive. The scenery is splendid!!
