Day three

What a beautiful morning. Yesterday was very hot, but this morning there was a light cloud cover & it was cool!!! The campground was pretty sparsely populated, so we has lots of space to our selves. Gracey and Red Fred are adjusting to the travel all day schedule.

We chose to take another scenic route thru the Flaming Gorge Rec area & got so great photos. About noon, headed north on Wyo HWY 530 about 8 miles south of Green River I heard a funny (not ha ha) kind of noise. Soon, my power steering quit and I pulled off the hwy while the contents of my radiator flowed onto the pavement below!!

62 year old Merle R. Brown, arrived just minutes after I pulled over. A very friendly and helpful gentleman. He found that one of the 3 belts under the hood had broken and pulled the other two off their wheels. He apologized for not have his tools with him!!! I reassured him that I had roadside assistance with Allstate and that my cell phone had a connection. Just in case, he took my number and said that he would check later to see that I was ok. He drove off to Green River. After many calls to Allstate, to discover that the Sprinter is not covered, the Subaru is. I finally got ahold of my agent & I will be insured tomorrow...she said she would make some calls to see about having me towed. Merle called back to discover I was still stuck on the roadside.

About 2pm (it is getting hot now) Merle returned with his son's pick-up....FILLED with tools. He popped open the hood and started to work. Five minutes later two more pick-ups pulled up behind the Sprinter, and Wa La 3 more auto mechanically inclined helpful gentlemen!! Thy tossed the torn hose and put on the two that were still good. After about an hour I was ready to drive into Green River with Merle following me for good luck.

I made it, found a "mechanic" with belts, had all the belts replaced and at 5pm I headed out from Green River. We spent the night At the Flying Something in their parking lot for free!! The have WiFi for a fee, so here I am. Safe, and grateful to all that helped me get here. What an adventure!!!

Wow! What a great day! Good Samaritans are everywhere. I bet they'll love telling their buds how they rescued the blond from Colorado!

Glad to hear you got the mixup with Allstate straightened out before a more serious breakdown.

You're likely talking about a "Flying J" truckstop--fabulous place to stay--clean showers and wireless!

Happy Motoring!

May you be blessed with such great road angels on all your travels! And may you not need them after this!!

I love that Merle apologized for not having his tools!!

Once, coming back from Illinois, I stopped to let my dog Barney out, but he jumped up on the door and locked the automatic door lock! Of course my keys were in the ignition!! Middle of Iowa, farmhouses a mile or two away, nothing else at the exit, getting dusk.

I started up the road toward a farmhouse when a truck came along and I started waving wildly. He stopped, a youngish guy on his way back from his parents. Said he wouldn't normally stop for someone but I looked pretty desperate.

He took me up the highway to the next exit with a truck stop where I could call AAA. Then they gave me hot chocolate (my purse was in the car, too). The triple A guy stopped on his way back from Sam's at DesMoines, gave me a ride back to my car and got me in and on my way.

Road angels are the BEST!!!!

And the moral of the story is, even though you don't have automatic door locks, where do you keep your spare key to get in?

Blessings!

The angels are watching over you! Maybe Marty sent those mechanics for you?

Glad that you are safe and having a great time.

Oh Annie,
What an adventure already !! Merle is a representative of good travel karma from your past. I, too, am tickled by his apology for not having tools at that moment. I think of you daily and see you are having a splendid time - carry on!
