Days ???? Palmer and Portage, AK
Ok, I'm loosing track of time. I must be on vacation!!! What a beautiful two days I have had. Tuesday morning August 5th when I left the RV Park in Palmer, I got my oil changed & the dogs were quite a hit at Midas. They got to come in the waiting area and great all the customers. The tires were a bit low, the oil was dark, and the air filter might need to be changed before I head for home…but the Sprinter looked good!!! We left there in search of Musk Ox(s?) It turns out there are two breeders near town & we chose the ones who lived out in the mountains & are raised for their “wool” or Qiviut. I thought that spun dog hair was pricey at $15.99 per skane. Qiviut costs $90.00 per skane!!!! It is very light weight and is usually combined with something like silk, because “Qiviut has no memory.” If it is pulled out of shape, it doesn’t return to its original shape (silk remembers!) John the farmer took me to meet his herd & they look very prehistoric. Oh, and Palmer is a city that raise HUGE vegetables!!! I took a few pictures. Then we headed south, thru Anchorage to Girdwood (formally Glacier City.) This hamlet is tucked in a clearing surrounded by tall mountains with snow and glacial activity year round. It is a beautiful little town with LOTS of good restaurants. Unfortunately, they had no place for us in our RV. So we kept on driving to Portage Valley where we stayed Tuesday nite and are staying again tonight August 6th. We are parked by a creek & Gracey and Red Fred love it. They are not fishing, but they are playing in the creek every chance they get.I am having camera issues today. I took lots of photos on Tuesday driving down Turnagain Arms, which is spectacular. Today as the clouds were lifting I took 4 shots and the camera said that my flash card was full. I tried two other flash cards and got the same response. Finally after hours of reading the manual (ugh) I decided to call for tech support (I do get cell connection here.) Unfortunately tech support is on the east coast and I waited too long, so they were closed. I will try first thing in the morning, because I want to continue taking pictures!!!! (Tech support worked!! So I'll keep the photos coming!) I don't seem to be able to add photos to this....so next post I will add the photos.
