What a GREAT place to spend a rainy day!!! We spent the night in the night in the Talkeetna Camper Park & woke to a drizzle, and no view of Mt. McKinley. So we decided to go to town and explore. What a cute little "Historic District"! Except for the bus loads of tourists, it would be charming. I had a very late breakfast at the Talkeetna Roadhouse & it was very busy & delightful! I went into the shops and bought a few trinkets. I almost bought (but didn't) a skane of yarn that was half dog hair and half wool. It was $15.99, and, thinking of my Sprinter and all the dog hair...I didn't by it. It would, however made and interesting addition to the purse that I am knitting.
I really had planned to spend the night, again, in Talkeena, but we left. Tonight we are in Palmer, where vegetables grow VERY big. Tomorrow we will have a look see. This campground is very nice, it's called the Homestead. It is owned and run by a couple from Manatu Springs,CO.

Wow! Talkeetna sure has changed since 1982! It was definitely NOT a tourist destination then. There's no place left to hide!
Annie,
Talkeetna looks great to me since I haven't been there. I remember when parts of Fort Collins looked something similar ;o)
It certainly looks like you're having a fabulous time - what a great adventure for your spirit. You look happy !
