What a long day!! The roads were difficult, and I ran out of gas. I left Tok this morning with questions on my mind???? Do I want to take the Alaska Ferry from Haines or Skagway to Prince Rupert. This ought to be beautiful, cause it goes thru the inside passage....but the dogs have to stay in the RV, and I have to stay on the deck. Ok, I was worrying about this last night, too. So, I took off this morning at 9:30am and about a half hour down the road I looked a my guages and had NO gas!!! I quickly pulled out maps to decide if I should turn back or continue......probably continue was the information. The roads were bad!!! There was road construction from Tok along the Alaskanhightway for hours!!! I sat for 10 minutes at my second stop...followed the piolet car and stopped again & that was all she wrote....no mor gas. I got out of the Sprinter & walked up to the driver of the piolet car and told him that I had run out of gas. He called out to the other highway workers that I needed to be towed. One man said, "I have gas", and they added 5 gallons of chainsaw mix gas to my tank. They reassured me that there was just a little oil mixed into the gas, but it should be just fine. They helped me get it started & with one BIG backfire...we were on our way to the neared gas station. It cost me nothing for their help & their donation of chainsaw fuel, there was not a pause in my driving, and I got gas and was on my way. Whew, another example of how things just work out!!!
The roads were bad all day. The Whup de dos I talked about before, were an all day long experience. As long as I could call them fun, they were, when I started worrying or getting tense, it was hard. Finally I got to Haines Junction & we are camped and have WiFi...what could be better??? I spent a couple of hours talking to my neighbors that I first met at a gas station before we crossed back into the Yukon Territory. They are a retired couple from Florida, Ed and Nancy. She is the driver & was also tired from the bad roads. She is also tired of being cooped up with Ed for the last three months. He went back in their rig & she and I talked. They have 11 grand kids and they take one each summer on their 3 month vacation!!!!!Saints, both of them!! Their granddaughter just flew back home from Anchorage & they had a good time.
I still don't know if I am going to take the ferry, so I'd better stop this and do some planning.
I'll try and load some photos, it seems that I can only load a few..so enjoy!

Hey Annie! I wonder if you took the ferry? We just got back from our amazing week in California late last night so I'm catching up with you!
From Haines, it shouldn't be a huge ferry ride to Juneau, where you might find a kennel for the kids for a couple of nights. You could take yourself to Sitka or down to Ketchikan, not pay for the RV to travel either, then come back and back up to Haines or Skagway.
Bet you've figured some of this out already. If you get the chance, look up the life of Rene Munoz. She's an artist of some renown in Alaska, and traveled there with all her savings, decided she'd stay if she found a job. Found one at a newspaper and started her adventure.
Not that I want to discourage you from coming back to EP, just encourage you to listen to your great big wonderful heart!!
