Day 27 To Haines and Back!

I left Haines Junctions at 10:30am with the plan that I would take the ferry to Skagway, see whales and eagles and end up in Skagway. I drove the beautiful Haines Highway, stopped at Lake Kathleen & checked out their campground, drove on to a little native village and listened to a woman tell her tribal story while I drank tea and ate her bread. Haines is lovely & the weather was mostly clear. I had halibut and home made clam chowder for lunch, then went to check on the ferry. It didn’t leave until 10pm, so I wouldn’t get to sight see, so I decided to look for a place to spend the night. What I found on the waterfront was on overflow space that looked a lot like a garbage dump.

So, I decided to drive back to Lake Kathleen and spend the night. What a long, redundant drive, but it was beautiful, both ways. The camp site at Lake Kathleen was beautiful & I was pleased with my choice.
